Introduction
Of the four classes the Templar is the only class that can heal without using a restoration staff, this makes it a particularly potent support class. There are two main archetypes that I’m going to discuss, both focus primarily on supporting a party rather than maximizing independent DPS for solo play.

The Tank Support
The tank support is a front-line fighter whose role is to draw aggro from monsters while supporting the party with buffs and healing skills. As a tank support you should use heavy armor and a shield, and invest any points you can spare into health to increase your survivability. Orismer and Redguard are both ideal races for this kind of elder scrolls templar class as they gain increased experience in heavy armor and shield affinity respectively. The Orismer further benefits from increased health and health regeneration, while the Redguard gets bonuses to stamina and stamina regeneration.

In combat use Focused Charge to engage enemies. Resist the temptation to load up on offensive skills, remember your priority should be protecting and supporting your teammates. Since you’ll be in the middle of the fight, you can make the most effective use of spells like Healing Ritual and Right of Passage.

The Ranged Support
The ranged weapon can either be a bow user or a staff, but in either case his role is to provide crowd control and support from a safe distance. Since you shouldn’t be taking too many hits feel free to use light armor and dump all your points into magicka or stamina. You’re going to want to be either a Bosmer (for bow) or a Breton (for caster) as they provide the most useful bonuses for a ranged support Templar.

As a ranged support, you will have a perfect view of the entire battle, allowing you to heal allies wherever needed and assist in focusing down priority targets. Use Rushed Ceremony to keep everyone’s health up, and Sun Fire or Scatter Shot to keep enemies snared. For your ultimate Nova is probably the best option but Rite of Passage is still good.

In Hindsight
These are just guidelines. Naturally you will want to adjust your build according to your specific needs depending on the dungeon, your party’s composition, as well as your own personal play style. After all there are many ways to build a support character. The important thing is that you assist your teammates, however you choose to actually do it.

Choosing the Perfect Weapon for the Templar

With The Elder Scrolls Online release date looming just a few months away, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to do one day 1.

The Elder Scrolls Online is offering the unique choice to allow players to choose whatever weapons they’d like, regardless of class as seen in esoclassguides.com . Some of the weapon choices in The Elder Scrolls Online will be a 1-handed weapon, a shield, a rune (magic), a 2-handed weapon, a bow and arrows, and a variety of staves.

But what should you choose for a the elder scrolls templar? Let’s take a look at what some of your best options are going to be.

While it’s true that The Elder Scrolls Online is trying to get away from some of the classic cookie-cutter builds you see in other MMORPGs, it’s still going to be a popular option to be a tank when it comes to the templar, a holy warrior in heavy armor defending his comrades from danger and his skills to support. Choosing the 1-handed weapon and shield combo will give you perks that reduce the cost of stamina when you’re blocking, allowing you to take more hits for your teammates. The sword and board option also gives you a strike that snares targets, enemies that might be running after a member of your party.

Maybe you’re the type of templar that’d rather be up close and personal to dish out a load of damage. A big, heavy 2-handed weapon might be the best option for you. While you’ll have a variety of direct damage dealing skills with the two-handed weapon line, you’ll also have skills that will allow you to charge an enemy with a guaranteed critical strike for a better gameplay. You’ll have a chance to increase stamina regeneration after killing an enemy, so you can stay in the fight longer and deal more damage.

A holy warrior can’t be too holy without healing his allies. Templars have the ability to keep his comrades alive with restoration skills. If that sounds good to you, go with the restoration staff. The healing staff will allow you to heal your friends and teammates; it will also give you the ability to completely shield comrades from damage. Other perks of the restoration staff include gaining bonus damage based on the amount of health you currently have, and increasing party members’ defenses.

Remember, you can use any weapon type as any class, these are just some popular options specifically for players planning to roll a templar.
